Etno Mreža Field Trips to Paraćin and Loznica
IWC members are cordially invited to join in on two upcoming diplomatic visits to the Etno Mreža colonies:
-
on Tuesday, October 15th from 11:00 to 15:00 | Fieldtrip to Paraćin, central Serbia
-
on Sunday, November 17th from 11:00 to 16:00 | Fieldtrip to Loznica, western Serbia
Etno Mreža (Ethno Network), in partnership with the British Embassy, organises colonies as part of a masterclass program for sustaining traditional crafts across Serbia, aiming to support the economic empowerment of women by preserving the country’s cultural heritage and promoting its touristic potential.
Each colony organises a diplomatic day for national and international officials and media to visit and support the crafters and explore some of the unique historical and cultural sights and gastronomy of the area.
October 15th from 11:00 to 15:00 | Fieldtrip to Paraćin, central Serbia
The colony in the Serbian city of glass, Paraćin, is specifically devoted to preserving the traditional crafts of gold embroidery and felting (hand rolling of wool). Nestled within the Morava valley, the town is widely celebrated as a center of the meat industry and agriculture. Tourism is on the rise due to its proximity to Belgrade and to pearls of nature like Sisevac and Grza.
November 17th from 11:00 to 16:00 | Fieldtrip to Loznica, western Serbia
The colony in Loznica, the heart of Western Serbia, treasures the ancient art of felting. Loznica is known as the alphabet city and home of the Serbian language scholar Vuk Karadžić, whose birthplace of Tršić provides a home to artisans in the colony. The area is known for the former royal spa at Koviljača and for the Tronoša monastery.
They should both be wonderful days out! The agenda and further details of this event will follow shortly.

Belgrade Classics - Belgrade Street Art Tour with Artez
October 30th 2024 at 11:00h | Republic Square
Enjoy, discover, and learn about Belgrade through its Street Art scene under the guidance of Artez, one of the leading Serbian street artists and muralists. His work is well known in the global street art scene, creating murals in many countries in Europe, Asia, and South America.
Our tour will focus on Dorćol district, the oldest neighbourhood of Belgrade situated alongside Kalemegdan fortress and on the Danube waterfront. These charming narrow streets speak for themselves about the mixture of antique and modern. One of the first murals in Belgrade is still adorning Skadarlija Street, the well-known bohemian quarter of Belgrade. Dorćol, in the past years, has reinvented itself as the new epicentre for culture, art, music, and literature in the city.
We will stumble upon a lot more on our way down to the river and back. Besides graffiti, stencils, and illustrations you will encounter portraits and a few colossal mural collaborations painted during the Meeting of Styles gatherings.
If time, weather, and logistics allow us, we will end our tour at Silosi, one of the trending, cultural, and laid-back places of the city.
