04.11.2022 at 10:30 to 12:00 | Instituto Cervantes | Čika-Ljubina 19

The  Embassy of Mexico invites our members to celebrate and learn about the “Day of the Dead” (Día de los Muertos). This is one of the most important traditions of Mexico known around the world that has been recognised  by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of Humanity. This celebration is mixture of cultural elements from pre-Hispanic advanced civilizations with European and contemporary elements, combining religious and pagan elements.  It revalues the concepts of life and death with a philosophical view with humor and at the same time with solemnity.

Mexicans remember and honor their deceased loved ones whose spirits reunites with their families in a happy celebration. However, It's not a gloomy or morbid occasion, rather a festive and colorful holiday celebrating the lives of those who have passed on. The Day of the Dead altars make the souls feel welcomed and show them they have not been forgotten with offerings that include components evoking the four elements: water, earth, wind and fire. The altars are composed with some personal belongings of the departed as well as their favorite food and drink to celebrate them.
