Adligat

Adligat, the enchanting Museum of Book and Travel and the Museum of Serbian Literature is one of the largest private libraries in the Balkans with over one million titles.
The two museums hold a number of valuable artifacts, including the letters of Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, personal belongings of Serbian kings, Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andric. It is also home to more than 120,000 stamps, 3,000 coins and banknotes, a vast collection of rare books and numerous other possessions. You will find books made of rice, bones, palm leaves, elephant excrement, goat skin, silk… All that is available to us in the extraordinary Museum of Books and Travels.
This is the personal library of the Lazić family, which was founded in 1882 in Vojvodina. The Lazić library and the whole Adligat are run by the writer and world traveler Viktor Lazić who is the ninth generation of the family. He will give guided tours for IWC members.
There will be a short presentation by Karmen Špiljak to know about Karmen’s work and trajectory as a writer.

Walking Group
23.03.23 at 11:45 | Belgrade Waterfront
The walking group is meeting on March 23rd at Belgrade Waterfront Main Office (on the corner of Karadjordjeva & Milorada Ekmečića). From the main office we will walk towards Kula Tower at Belgrade Waterfront and go up to the viewing tower to enjoy the view of the Danube. The project manager of Belgrade Waterfront, Lee Collins, will guide us to the tower. The walk will take about an hour, after which, those who are interested in having lunch together at Buddha Bar are more than welcome.

Opera Group: Carmen

Carmen is set in a remote frontier town, where soldiers spend their time drinking at Lillas Pastia’s nightclub. All are obsessed with Carmen, the star performer, except for repressed corporal Don José. He has received a letter from his mother via Micaëla, a woman from his hometown, urging that he return home and marry Micaëla. However, when a brawl breaks out at the club, José is ordered to guard Carmen. She gives him a private dance and he is captivated…
Carmen asks José to prove his love by running away with her - he refuses, but when jealousy over Carmen causes him to attack a senior officer, José is left with no choice but to desert.
The pair become involved in smuggling, but by now, Carmen has grown tired of his possessiveness and turned instead to the swaggering Escamillo. But she has seen what’s on the cards, and her and José’s fates are sealed…

Verena’s term as IWC Treasurer is coming to an end and as she prepares to leave Belgrade, the IWC Board needs a new volunteer to take her place.
As Treasurer, you will oversee the general financial management of the Club and work closely with the Bookkeeper.
Social Media Coordinator
Are you a creative mind and a communication talent? Do you like taking photos and are you active in social media? Then feel free to get in touch with us! The IWC is currently looking for a Social Media Coordinator to take care of our social media accounts. As the Social Media Coordinator, you will be responsible for content creation and management by reporting on past events and providing information on upcoming activities. You will also interact with IWC followers on comments or messages.
