IWC NEWS

Open Door Network

January 15th 2024 - IWC Newsletter

Following on from the vote at last years General Assembly, we are delighted to announce that IWC Belgrade is now a member of the Open Door Network of International Women's Clubs Worldwide.

A letter from the Chair of Open Door, Marja van Loopik:

"The idea of ‘Open Door’ was started in Stockholm in 1980 by Elisabeth Samman. Whilst travelling with her husband, a Rotarian, the hospitality extended to him by fellow Rotarians in foreign cities made such an impression on her that she thought this could help members of International Women’s Associations have a similar reciprocity in opening their doors to each other when visiting or moving to another country. ‘Open Door’ was established with nine Intl. Women’s Associations each agreeing to nominate an International Co-ordinator (ICO) to welcome IWC members of sisterclubs to their own clubs as guests, at monthly meetings and other club activities as well as exchanging newsletters and correspondence. ‘Open Door’ aspires to facilitate and promote inter-club contact and communication between International Women’s Associations which are non-political, non-religious and non-commercial and where membership is open to all nationalities. The ‘Open Door’ network is administered by means of a Directory of member associations with club and contact details of Presidents and International Coordinators.

In this way much is being done to help each other through contact with women of different nations, by promoting mutual understanding, furthering cultural exchanges and cultivating friendships which altogether lead to a richer and broader understanding of each other. Today we are almost 70 clubs around the world, and we are keeping in touch with most of them."

We hope this will foster many positive experiences for us as a club and for our members as you come and go from Belgrade to wherever you travel next. We have already had communication regarding the Global Meeting in The Hague which will take place on the weekend of May 31st - June 2nd so save the date and watch this space for more information...

Budapest

For now, Amelia Pinter from our sister club in Budapest would like to wish us Happy New Year!

"I am a member of Budapest IWC and I wrote us a song 'Home Away From Home' and sang it for our Christmas event at the Marriott hotel on the Danube.

I was so moved by how our ladies received it, I thought I would share it with you to share the love.

It is newly released and accessible through the following link, as are the lyrics!"

Bridges Magazine

January 15th 2024 - IWC Newsletter

In just a few weeks, IWC Belgrade, headed up by our dear member Marine von Koenig, is launching a new quarterly magazine - Bridges! This very exciting project aims to promote our work, connect members and create links with potential sponsors as well as increasing transparency with existing ones. To achieve these goals, we need your help!

In particular, we are looking for an English native-speaking copy editor as well as photographers, contributors (regular or occasional), and a graphic designer (or anyone willing to learn editorial design in Adobe InDesign and/or Canva). Even just a couple of hours of your time can make a big difference.

If you can spare some time to help out and join the team, get in touch by CLICKING HERE!
