Art Exhibition

February 15th 2023 - IWC Newsletter

17.02.2023 at 10:30 | Prodajna Art Gallery | Kosančićev Venac 19

On February, Monday 17th at 10:30, we will meet up at the Prodajna Art Gallery to greet the artist Petar Đorđević, who will personally guide us through his newest exhibition called “Optimistically bright, sunny composition”.

Ignoring all combinations with modern materials, digital technology, multimedia and turning to a completely classical approach such as oil painting on canvas, he makes a serious analysis of the present-time. Choosing one of the oldest subject matters in painting, the artist Petar Đorđević sets himself a serious task.

He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 2012, Department of Painting, under his mentor professor Slobodan Roksandić. Đorđević defended his doctoral art project entitled “Possibilities of Visual Reading of the Spinal Column“ in 2019 at the same faculty. Currently he is a teacher at Plastic Anatomy at the FLU (Faculty of Fine Art) in Belgrade.

For members who are new to the club or Belgrade, the walks are ideal for you as you will have plenty of time to get to know other members or other non-member ladies.  Our walks are usually very gentle with low-impact activity and it requires no special training or equipment.  Most of our walks are fun as we are walking and talking too.

For this walk, if you have any 4-legged friends, children in prams or friends who are not members of IWC, please feel free to bring them along!  The paths are good at Ada Lake (ideal for prams).

Opera - Turandot

February 15th 2023 - IWC Newsletter

23.02.2023 at 19:30 | Belgrade National Theatre | Republic Square

The next Opera on the agenda for the Opera lovers group is “Turandot”, by Giocomo Puccini. Described as his final opera (unfinished at his death) it is by far and away his most musically adventurous. It’s an opera that blends epic chorus passages with some brilliantly intimate moments. The opening is a powerful series of five chords, said musically to depict an executioner’s axe falling, and that hair-raising effect is spectacularly well maintained throughout.

Turandot also contains arguably the most famous tenor aria in all of opera, "Nessun Dorma". An instantly recognizable piece of music which you'll come to learn has lost its dark meaning by being repeatedly considered out of context. The conclusion stretches incredulity even by operatic standards, but as Puccini didn’t write it, he can’t be blamed!

Time: February 23rd at 19:30 (Cocktails at 18:30 at Credo Restaurant)

Place: National Theatre on Republic Square
