MID-MONTH REVIEW
Cocktail Evening
A huge thank you to the Italian Embassy and our dear member Eugenia Gresta for hosting this month's Cocktail Evening for IWC members! After a presentation, we continued the centenary celebrations listening to artists Tamara Stefanović (piano) and Ana Gvozdenović (soprano) who really set the mood in such grandeur. The night was then filled with a lovely tour of the Residential part of the Embassy, which included the stunning chapel and gardens, before being treated to refreshments and traditional Italian food.
Charity Committee
"It was very rewarding being part of the IWC Charity Committee this year. Reading through all of the applications we received opened my eyes to the reality faced by many people in need within our community. Hearing their stories and witnessing their resilience was both humbling and motivating. It highlighted the importance of our efforts and reinforced my commitment to supporting those who are less fortunate. It was a powerful reminder of the privilege we often take for granted and the responsibility we have to extend a helping hand to those in need."

After a busy two months and with the Board's approval, the Charity Committee have chosen the final projects deemed worthy of IWC support this year. Before an official announcement can be made, we'd like to take this opportunity to remind ourselves of last years projects and how our funds have made a difference to many lives throughout Serbia.

Palace Tour

IWC members are invited on a private tour of both the Beli Dvor and the Royal Palace on Tuesday April 23rd at 11:00, both of which are located within the Royal Compound in Dedinje.
The tour will take approximately 1.5 hours.
To coincide with the traditional Easter Receptions that HRH Crown Princess Katherine hosts each year, IWC members are encouraged to bring presents to gift to young teenage girls and boys (aged 12-15 years old) such as art supplies or games etc. These receptions are held for orphans, children with special needs, Roma children and socially vulnerable children from all over Serbia. Cross-stitch Workshop

IWC members are invited to a cross-stitch workshop with Serbian designer, Marija Paunović Čontoš, owner of the textile company Razbojnik. Her award-winning designs can be seen in museums, gift shops and high-end clothing stores throughout Serbia. At this workshop, suitable for beginners, Marija will show participants how to create a beautiful cross-stitch piece. All materials will be provided.

Etno Mreza Diplomatic Visit in Šid
10.05.24 from 11:00 to 15:00 (08:30 to approximately 17:00 with transportation) | Šid
IWC Members are cordially invited to participate in The Ethno Network (Etno Mreza) diplomatic visit to the Whitework & Ruthenian embroidery artisans colony in Šid on Friday, 10 May. This is the inaugural colony of this type for this town and so is quite an exciting event!
WHERE: Šid, close to the Croatian border, is about 90 minute's drive from Belgrade. The town is widely celebrated as the hometown of renowned painters Sava Šumanović and Serbian naïve painter Ilija Bašičević Bosilj. It is also known as the capital of kulen, with excellent wineries nested in the slopes, plus the lakes of beautiful Srem.
WHEN: Friday, May 10th. The diplomatic visit will be held from 11am to 3pm. (If you require transportation to the event please plan to depart Belgrade at approximately 8.30am and arrive back in Belgrade approximately 5pm.)
WHY: Aiming to support economic empowerment of women by preserving the country's cultural heritage and promoting its touristic potential, Ethno Network under the auspices of the Canadian Embassy organises colonies as a masterclass program of old crafts across Serbia. Ethno Network, together with NALED and the diplomatic and donor community in Serbia, has organised more than 20 colonies in 8 cities across Serbia since 2016.
The colonies extend a unique opportunity for crafters to network with their fellow artisans and grow their skills in old crafts by taking part in a specialised four-day program. Each colony includes a diplomatic day for national and international officials and media to visit and support the crafters and explore some of the unique historical and cultural sights and gastronomy of the area.

The Social Work Activity Group invite you to join the Holiday Season action and donate - according to your capabilities - gifts for young teenage girls and boys (12-15 years old): acrylic paint sets, art supplies, cuddly new toys, puzzles, magic cubes, board games, card and dice games etc.
We kindly ask you to bring only new gifts that are unwrapped and in their original packaging. Donations are also welcome in advance of the Beli Dvor event on the 23rd, please get in touch to arrange collection.
